Although temperature hovered in the mid-80’s, hundreds of underprivileged students from the Philadelphia School district eagerly received warm winter-coats, Thursday, as part of the sixth annual “Driving Away the Cold” program held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Sponsored by the “Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation,” a charitable wing of the region’s dealers, 180 participating Auto Dealers pledged a new winter-coat for each automobile sale in September, resulting in nearly 31,000 new coats being delivered to children in October.

Assisting a young boy as he tried on a size 8 coat, a beaming Jack Stein, Vice President and General Manager of Keystone Volvo in Berwyn/Doylestown and Keystone Volvo Sales Consultant Alan Kirsch looked on with a keen eye: “Perfect.”

“This is great. It makes you feel just wonderful to do something for the kids,” said Mr. Stein, who has been involved since the beginning of the “Driving Away” program in 2008.

Mr. Stein noted that he is involved in two other similar programs during the holiday season, adding, “I never get tired of it.”

With Philadelphia School Superintendent William Hite and Mayor Michael Nutter in attendance, the area Auto Dealers also donated a $50,000 check to the School District.
